🔆NATIONAL MISSION ON USE OF BIOMASS IN THERMAL POWER PLANTS
✅why news- Ministry of Power has decided to set up a National Mission on use of Biomass in coal based thermal power plants.
▪️Mission objectives:
✅To increase the level of co-firing from present 5% to higher levels to have a larger share of carbon neutral power generation from the thermal power plants.
✅To take up R&D activity in boiler design to handle the higher amount of silica, alkalis in the biomass pellets.
✅To facilitate overcoming the constraints in supply chain of bio mass pellets and agro- residue and its transport upto to the power plants.
✅To consider regulatory issues in biomass co-firing.
▪️Features:
✅The Mission would have a Steering Committee headed by Secretary (Power) comprising of all stakeholders including representatives from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) etc.
✅The Executive Committee would be headed by Member (Thermal), CEA.
✅The duration of proposed National Mission would be a minimum 5 years.
▪️Significance of the Proposed Mission
✅It would address the issue of air pollution due to farm stubble burning and to reduce carbon footprints of thermal power generation.
✅This would further support the energy transition in the country and our targets to move towards cleaner energy sources.
✅It will also contribute in the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

- विद्युत मंत्रालय ने कोयला आधारित ताप विद्युत संयंत्रों में बायोमास के उपयोग पर एक राष्ट्रीय मिशन स्थापित करने का निर्णय लिया है।
️मिशन के उद्देश्य:
ताप विद्युत संयंत्रों से कार्बन न्यूट्रल बिजली उत्पादन का एक बड़ा हिस्सा प्राप्त करने के लिए सह-फायरिंग के स्तर को वर्तमान 5% से बढ़ाकर उच्च स्तर तक ले जाना।
बायोमास छर्रों में सिलिका, क्षार की अधिक मात्रा को संभालने के लिए बॉयलर डिजाइन में अनुसंधान एवं विकास गतिविधि करना।
बायोमास पेलेट्स और कृषि अवशेषों की आपूर्ति श्रृंखला में बाधाओं को दूर करने और बिजली संयंत्रों तक इसके परिवहन की सुविधा के लिए।
बायोमास को-फायरिंग में नियामक मुद्दों पर विचार करना।
️विशेषताएं:
मिशन में सचिव (विद्युत) की अध्यक्षता में एक संचालन समिति होगी जिसमें पेट्रोलियम और प्राकृतिक गैस मंत्रालय (एमओपीएनजी), नवीन और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा मंत्रालय (एमएनआरई) आदि के प्रतिनिधियों सहित सभी हितधारक शामिल होंगे।
कार्यकारी समिति की अध्यक्षता सदस्य (थर्मल), सीईए करेंगे।
प्रस्तावित राष्ट्रीय मिशन की अवधि न्यूनतम 5 वर्ष होगी।
▪️प्रस्तावित मिशन का महत्व
यह खेत पराली जलाने के कारण वायु प्रदूषण के मुद्दे को संबोधित करेगा और थर्मल पावर उत्पादन के कार्बन फुटप्रिंट को कम करेगा।
यह देश में ऊर्जा संक्रमण और स्वच्छ ऊर्जा स्रोतों की ओर बढ़ने के हमारे लक्ष्यों का और समर्थन करेगा।
यह राष्ट्रीय स्वच्छ वायु कार्यक्रम (एनसीएपी) में भी योगदान देगा।
