Ashtamudi Lake

✅Ashtamudi Lake (Ashtamudi Kayal), in the Kollam District of the Indian state of Kerala, is the most visited backwater and lake in the state.

✅It possesses a unique wetland ecosystem and a large palm-shaped (also described as octopus-shaped) water body, second only in size to the Vembanad estuary ecosystem of the state.

✅The lake is also called the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala and is well known for its houseboat and backwater resorts

✅Ashtamudi Wetland was included in the list of wetlands of international importance, as defined by the Ramsar Convention for the conservation and sustainable utilization of wetlands

✅Kallada River is a major river discharging into the Ashtamudi Lake.

 अष्टमुडी झील

 भारतीय राज्य केरल के कोल्लम जिले में अष्टमुडी झील (अष्टमुडी कयाल), राज्य में सबसे अधिक देखी जाने वाली बैकवाटर और झील है।

 इसमें एक अद्वितीय आर्द्रभूमि पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र और एक बड़ा हथेली के आकार (जिसे ऑक्टोपस के आकार के रूप में भी वर्णित किया गया है) जल निकाय है, जो राज्य के वेम्बनाड मुहाना पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के आकार में दूसरे स्थान पर है।

 झील को केरल के बैकवाटर का प्रवेश द्वार भी कहा जाता है और यह अपने हाउसबोट और बैकवाटर रिसॉर्ट्स के लिए प्रसिद्ध है।

 अष्टमुडी वेटलैंड को अंतरराष्ट्रीय महत्व की आर्द्रभूमि की सूची में शामिल किया गया था, जैसा कि आर्द्रभूमि के संरक्षण और टिकाऊ उपयोग के लिए रामसर कन्वेंशन द्वारा परिभाषित किया गया था।

कल्लदा नदी एक प्रमुख नदी है जो अष्टमुडी झील में गिरती है।

 वेम्बनाड झील

 वेम्बनाड, जिसे पुन्नमदा के नाम से भी जाना जाता है, भारत की सबसे लंबी झील है, साथ ही केरल राज्य की सबसे बड़ी झील भी है।

 पश्चिम बंगाल में सुंदरबन के बाद ही भारत में दूसरा सबसे बड़ा रामसर स्थल है।

 कोच्चि बंदरगाह विलिंगडन द्वीप और वल्लारपदम द्वीप के चारों ओर बनाया गया है।

 कुट्टनाड, जिसे केरल के चावल के कटोरे के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, भारत में सबसे कम ऊंचाई पर है, और यह दुनिया के उन कुछ स्थानों में से एक है जहां खेती समुद्र तल से नीचे होती है। कुट्टनाड वेम्बनाड के दक्षिणी भाग में स्थित है।

 नेहरू ट्रॉफी बोट रेस झील के एक हिस्से में आयोजित की जाती है।

 इस झील में बहने वाली 10 नदियां हैं, जिनमें मध्य केरल की छह प्रमुख नदियां अचेनकोविल, मनीमाला, मीनाचिल नदी, मुवत्तुपुझा नदी, पंबा और पेरियार शामिल हैं।

Vembanad Lake 

✅Vembanad, also known as Punnamada is the longest lake in India, as well as the largest lake in the state of Kerala.

✅is the second largest Ramsar site in India only after the Sunderbans in West Bengal. 

✅Kochi Port is built around the Willingdon Island and the Vallarpadam island.

✅Kuttanad, also known as The Rice Bowl of Kerala, has the lowest altitude in India, and is also one of the few places in world where cultivation takes place below sea level.Kuttanad lies on the southern portion of Vembanad.

✅The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is conducted in a portion of the lake. 

✅The lake is fed by 10 rivers flowing into it including the six major rivers of central Kerala namely the Achenkovil, Manimala, Meenachil river, Muvattupuzha river, Pamba and Periyar.
