17 मई  को विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस मनाया जाता है, क्योंकि इस दिन इंटरनेशनल टेलिकम्युनिकेशन यूनियन बनाया गया था।

 इस दिन पहली बार इंटरनेशनल टेलिग्राफ कन्वेंशन एंड कोइनसाइड्स का आयोजन भी किया गया था। 

इसी आधार पर यूनाइडेड नेशन ने 17 मई को विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय लिया।

विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस को मनाने के पीछे का दूसरा कारण यह भी है कि इस दिन को इंटरनेट और इंफॉर्मेशन एंड कम्युनिकेशन टेक्नोलॉजी (ICT) को विश्व में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के रूप में भी याद किया जाए। 

इस बार विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस की थीम "डिजिटल टेक्नोलॉजी का प्रयोग करके COVID-19 को हराने का प्रयास और सतत विकास हेतु 2030 का कम्युनिकेशन अजेंडा" है। 

इस दिवस को मनाने के उद्देश्य- 

- लोगों के मध्य उत्पन्न डिजिटल मतभेद को समाप्त करना है।

- 5G सेवा और इंटरनेट ऑफ थिंग्स (IoT) को बढ़ावा देना।

- लोगों के मध्य सकारात्मक संचार तकनीक के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के प्रति जागरूक करना।

- सूचना और संचार को दूरस्थ और ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों तक आसानी से पहुंचाना।

जैसा कि हम सभी जानते हैं कि पिछले कुछ महीनों से पूरी दुनिया कोरोनावायरस की महामारी की वजह से अपने घरों में रहने के लिए मजबूर हैं। लोग घरों में रहकर भी एक-दूसरे से कम्युनिकेशन टेक्नोलॉजी (संचार तकनीक) की वजह से ही जुड़े हुए हैं। 

दूरसंचार का हमारी जिंदगी में कितना महत्त्वपूर्ण प्रभाव है इसका अनुभव हमें लॉकडाउन में हुआ है। सभी लोग घरों में रहकर भी बाहरी दुनिया से जुड़े हुए हैं। ऐसा केवल दूरसंचार और कम्युनिकेशन टेक्नोलॉजी के सतत विकास के कारण ही संभव हो पाया है।

World Telecom Day

World Telecom Day is celebrated on 17 May, as the International Telecommunication Union was formed on this day.

 The International Telegraph Convention and Coinsides was also organized for the first time on this day.

On this basis, the United Nations decided to celebrate May 17 as World Telecommunication Day.

Another reason behind celebrating World Telecommunication Day is that this day should also be remembered as Internet and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to raise awareness in the world.

This time the theme of World Telecommunication Day is "An attempt to defeat COVID-19 using digital technology and the communication agenda of 2030 for sustainable development".

Objectives of celebrating this day-

- Digital differences between people to be eliminated.

- Promotion of 5G service and Internet of Things (IoT).

- To create awareness among people to promote the use of positive communication techniques.

- Easy access to information and communication to remote and rural areas.

As we all know that for the last few months the whole world has been forced to live in their homes because of the coronavirus epidemic. People are also connected to each other due to communication technology (living in home).

We have experienced lockdown in how important impact telecom has in our lives. All people are connected to the outside world even by staying in their homes. This has been possible only due to the continuous development of telecommunication and communication technology.
