The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has constituted a Working Group Committee to review its information and safety guidelines. The need to establish the panel was felt following the rapid increase in worldwide cyber attack amid the Kovid-19 epidemic.

• The financial sector has seen a rapid rise in cyber attacks amid epidemics.

• The growing threat of cyber security has obliged regulators to revisit cyber security guidelines.

• These guidelines will apply to all regulated entities for the protection of financial systems.

• According to these guidelines, the Insurer Risk Management Committee will be responsible for an annual comprehensive assurance audit.

• This committee will also be responsible for conducting Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Test (VA & PT).

• Once audited, it is required to report to IRDAI.

 Role of Working Group Committee:

• This committee will review whether the applicability of the guidelines for insurers under IRDAI's regulatory measures can be extended to other entities.

• It will also focus on how guidelines can be applied to entities using Insurer IT systems.

• It will further consider whether fintech solutions need to update guidelines to cover cyber security issues.

Regulators issued guidelines on cyber security in April 2017 as part of their governance mechanisms. These guidelines also include Board-approved Information and Cyber ​​Security Policy, Information Security Committee (ISC), Cyber ​​Crisis Management Plan (CCMP) and appointment of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
