संयुक्त राष्ट्र हर साल 17 जून को मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखे का मुकाबला करने के लिए विश्व दिवस (World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought) मनाता है। विश्व मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखा रोकथाम दिवस (World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought) हर साल 17 जून को मनाया जाता है। यह दिन मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखे की उपस्थिति के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने और मरुस्थलीकरण को रोकने तथा सूखे से उबरने के तरीकों पर प्रकाश डालने के लिए मनाया जाता है।

मरुस्थलीकरण और सूखे का मुकाबला करने के लिए विश्व दिवस भूमि क्षरण और मरुस्थलीकरण के प्रति सार्वजनिक दृष्टिकोण को बदलने पर ध्यान केंद्रित करता है।

♻️ महत्व (Importance) :

जैसे-जैसे वैश्विक जनसंख्या बढ़ रही है और दुनिया समृद्ध होती जा रही है, भोजन, वस्त्र और पशुओं के चारे के लिए भूमि की अधिक आवश्यकता है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र के अनुसार, विश्व की जनसंख्या 2050 तक 10 बिलियन तक पहुंच जाएगी। इतनी बड़ी आबादी की जरूरतों को पूरा करने के लिए 2010 के स्तर की तुलना में 2050 तक अतिरिक्त 593 मिलियन हेक्टेयर कृषि भूमि की आवश्यकता है। यह भारत के क्षेत्रफल का दोगुना है।
