विश्व महासागर दिवस (World Ocean Day) हर साल 8 जून को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया जाता है। यह दिन हमारे जीवन में समुद्र के महत्व और उन तरीकों के बारे में वैश्विक जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए मनाया जाता है जिनके माध्यम से हम इसकी रक्षा कर सकते हैं। दिवस का उद्देश्य आम जनता को महासागर पर मानवीय कार्यों के प्रभाव के बारे में बताना, महासागर के लिए नागरिकों के एक विश्वव्यापी आंदोलन को विकसित करना और दुनिया के महासागरों के सतत प्रबंधन के लिए एक परियोजना पर दुनिया की आबादी को संगठित और एकजुट करना है।

📌 थीम व विषय 2021 :

"द ओशन: लाइफ एंड लाइवलीहुड (The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods)" विश्व महासागर दिवस 2021 का विषय है, साथ ही उन प्रयोजन की घोषणा है जो 2030 तक सतत विकास लक्ष्य 14, "महासागरों, समुद्रों और समुद्री संसाधनों का संरक्षण और स्थायी रूप से उपयोग करना”, प्राप्त करने के लिए एक दशक की चुनौतियों का शुभारंभ करते हैं। इस वर्ष का विषय सतत विकास के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासागर विज्ञान दशक की अगुवाई में विशेष रूप से प्रासंगिक है, जो 2021 से 2030 तक चलेगा। दशक वैज्ञानिक अनुसंधान और नवीन तकनीकों को विकसित करने के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहयोग को मजबूत करेगा, जो समुद्र विज्ञान को समाज की जरूरतों से जोड़ सकते हैं।

महासागर लोगों के दैनिक जीवन में एक प्रमुख भूमिका निभाते हैं। यह जीवमंडल (biosphere) का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है क्योंकि यह हमें पानी प्रदान करता है जो हमारे दैनिक जीवन का एक अभिन्न अंग है। हालाँकि, महासागर वर्षों से मानव निर्मित विनाश का खामियाजा भुगत रहे हैं। समुद्र में औद्योगिक कचरा और अवांछित कचरा उसके प्राकृतिक संसाधनों से खराब और अस्थिर कर रहा है। इस प्रकार, महासागरों को बचाना महत्वपूर्ण हो जाता है और विश्व महासागर दिवस इसके लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।

विश्व महासागर दिवस पहली बार 1992 में रियो डी जनेरियो में पृथ्वी शिखर सम्मेलन (Earth Summit) के दौरान सुझाया गया था। इसके बाद, संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा ने 5 दिसंबर, 2008 को इस दिन को नामित करने का प्रस्ताव पारित किया।

🌐 अतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री संगठन :

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री संगठन (International Marine Organization) का गठन 1973 में तेल द्वारा जहाजों से होने वाले प्रदूषण के मुद्दों को संबोधित करने के लिए किया गया था।

⌛️ विश्व महासागर दिवस का इतिहास :

कनाडा की सरकार ने 1992 में रियो डी जनेरियो (Rio de Janeiro) में पृथ्वी शिखर सम्मेलन में विश्व महासागर दिवस की अवधारणा का प्रस्ताव दिया था। आधिकारिक तौर पर विश्व महासागर दिवस की स्थापना 2008 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा द्वारा की गई थी, जो मुद्दों को हल करने के लिए 8 जून को दुनिया भर में प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है। द ओशन प्रोजेक्ट और वर्ल्ड ओशन नेटवर्क के सहयोग से इसे अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर मनाया जाने लगा है।

World Ocean Day is celebrated globally on 8 June every year. The day is celebrated to raise global awareness about the importance of the ocean in our lives and the ways through which we can protect it. The purpose of the day is to inform the general public about the impact of human actions on the ocean, to develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and to organize and unite the world's population on a project for the sustainable management of the world's oceans.

Theme and Subject 2021 :

"The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods" is the theme of World Oceans Day 2021, as well as a declaration of objectives that meet Sustainable Development Goal 14, "Conservation and sustainable development of oceans, seas and marine resources by 2030". “Using effectively”, launch a decade of challenges to achieve. This year’s theme is particularly relevant in the lead-up to the United Nations Ocean Science Decade for Sustainable Development, which will run from 2021 to 2030. Oceans play a major role in the daily lives of people. It is an important part of the biosphere as it provides us with water which is an integral part of our daily life. However, the oceans have been bearing the brunt of man-made destruction over the years. Industrial waste and unwanted waste in the ocean is depleting and destabilizing its natural resources. Thus, saving the oceans becomes important and World Oceans Day is committed to it.

Background :

World Oceans Day was first suggested in 1992 during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Subsequently, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to designate this day on 5 December 2008.

International Maritime Organization:

The International Marine Organization was formed in 1973 to address the issues of pollution caused by oil from ships.
