हर साल विश्व स्तर पर 8 मई को वर्ल्ड रेड क्रॉस और रेड क्रिसेंट डे मनाया जाता है। यह दिन अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेड क्रॉस और रेड क्रिसेंट मूवमेंट के सिद्धांतों को मनाने, लोगों की पीड़ा को कम करने और उन्हें स्वतंत्रता, मानवता, निष्पक्षता, सार्वभौमिकता, एकता और तटस्थता के साथ सम्मानजनक जीवन व्यापन के लिए सक्षम बनाने का लक्ष्य रखता है।

विश्व रेड क्रॉस दिवस, जिसे वर्ल्ड रेड क्रॉस या रेड क्रीसेंट डे (World Red Cross or Red Crescent Day) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, प्रतिवर्ष 8 मई को मनाया जाता है। यह रेड क्रॉस और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेड क्रॉस समिति ( International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) के संस्थापक हेनरी डुनैंट (Henri Dunant) की जयंती मनाने के लिए मनाया जाता है।

♻️ विश्व रेड क्रॉस दिवस (World Red Cross Day) :

• 8 मई, 1948 को एक वार्षिक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय रेड क्रॉस दिवस के प्रस्ताव को अपनाया गया था और इसे आधिकारिक तौर पर विश्व रेड क्रॉस (या रेड क्रिसेंट डे) के रूप में घोषित किया गया था। इसलिए, पहला रेड क्रॉस दिवस 1948 में मनाया गया था।

• यह लोगों की पीड़ा को कम करने और उन्हें सम्मानजनक जीवन जीने के लिए सक्षम बनाने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है।

• हेनरी डुनेंट ने 1859 में सोलफेरिनो (उत्तरी इटली में) के युद्ध के मैदान में छोड़े गए घायल सैनिकों की पीड़ा देखी। जिनेवा लौटने पर, उन्होंने ‘ए मेमोरी ऑफ़ सोलफेरिनो’ (A Memory of Solferino) की रचना कि। यह युद्ध की भयावहता के बारे में था जिसे उन्होंने देखा और युद्ध में घायल लोगों की मदद के लिए समर्पित संगठन का प्रस्ताव दिया।

World Red Cross Day, also known as World Red Cross or Red Crescent Day, is celebrated every year on 8 May. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

• An annual International Red Cross Day resolution was adopted on 8 May 1948, and it was officially declared as the World Red Cross (or Red Crescent Day). Therefore, the first Red Cross day was observed in 1948.

About Red Cross:

• It is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world.

• There are currently 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies globally. It has more than 97 million employees and volunteers.

• It is an active participant in various programs and services, including emergency response, community-based health and care, disaster preparedness, first aid training, restoring family contact for disaster victims.

Jean Henri Dunant:

He was a Swiss businessman whose efforts led to the formation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), adopted the Geneva Conventions and created the iconic Red Cross emblem.

He is the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

History of World Red Cross Symbol Day:

• Henry Dunant witnessed the suffering of wounded soldiers left in the battlefield of Solferino (in northern Italy) in 1859. On his return to Geneva, he composed 'A Memory of Solferino'. It was about the horrors of war that he witnessed and proposed an organization dedicated to helping the wounded in the war

• In February 1863, a five-member committee met to study Dunant's proposals.

• In October 1863, an international conference adopted ten proposals for the establishment of a Relief Society for wounded soldiers and created the 'Red Cross' as an equally distinctive symbol.

• Later, in August 1864, a diplomatic conference was convened, which changed the proposals to the rules of the treaty. It adopted the First Geneva Convention which recognized the Red-Cross on a white background as a distinct background.

• The Red Cross symbol on the white background is actually the inversion of the Swiss flag (with the white cross on the red background).

• The day also marks the birth anniversary of Henry Dunant (8 May 1828), founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
