International Sculpture Day Every year on the last Saturday in April, International Sculpture Day enjoys awareness, appreciation and sculpture. It is also a day for sculptors from all over the world to show their artistic talent.
Sculpture is a type of visual art that operates in three dimensions. The word sculpture comes from the Latin word sculpier, which means to carve. Sculptors use a wide variety of materials to create their sculptures. While many traditional materials include wood, stone, metal and ceramics, other sculptors specialize in non-traditional materials. They use materials such as ice, toothpicks, and even Lego. Sculptors also use materials, colors, textures, and shapes to elicit a feeling or reaction from the viewer. Their methods also differ. Sculptors use one of four primary methods to create their sculptures. These methods include carving, casting, casting, and assembling.
Some of the most famous statues in the world include:
• The Great Sphinx (sculptor is unknown) in Giza Egypt.
• Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by Paul the Landski.
• Think in Paris, France by Auguste Rodin.
• Venus de Milo in Paris, France by Alexandros of Antioch.
• Michael in Florence, by Michael Michelangelo.
• Statue of Liberty in New York City, (NY) NY by Frederick Auguste Bartholdi.
Many famous sculptures have stood the test of time. For example, Venus de Milo is believed to have been built between 130 BCE and 100 BCE.
đ How to work and check and inspect:
Many countries around the world, including Australia, Spain, Canada, England, Germany, Switzerland and Austria, conduct sculpture programs on this day. These events include exhibits, book signings, scavenger hunts, public art tours, open museums, contests, exhibits and workshops. There are many things you can do to participate on this day.
To Participate:
• Sign up for a sculpture class.
• Visit an art museum or participate in a sculpture exhibition.
• Help your children create a sculpture from materials at home.
• Learn about famous sculptors, including Michelangelo, Auguste Rodin, Fernando Botero, Alexander Calder, and Pablo Picasso.
Share this day with all of you on social media with #InternationalSculptureDay or #ISDay.
History of International Sculpture Day:
The International Sculpture Center created International Sculpture Day in 2015. During the inauguration ceremony, 12 countries organized 50 events. In just 2 years, more than 20 countries hosted over 200 events. The day keeps growing every year.
