Shanti rose has large cream colored flowers with light yellow to light pink petal wings. It is a hybrid tea rose that is hardy, vigorous and highly resistant to disease.

Between 1935 and 1939, the French horticulturist Francis Meiland developed the Peace Rose. When Mayland invaded France to protect the new rose, he sent cuttings to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany, and the United States. It is believed that these cuttings were sent to the United States on the last available aircraft before the German invasion.

Each country that received the cuttings gave the rose a different name. In France, it was called "Madame A. Meiland" in honor of the breeder's mother. Italy named the rose Gio, which means happiness. Rose was named Gloria Dei in Germany for the glory of God. The United States named the rose "peace", and the national flower of the United States is the rose.

As World War II closed in Europe, the name "Peace" was publicly announced on April 29, 1945 by the Conrad Pyle Company in the United States.

Later in 1945, in San Francisco, a peace rose was given to each delegate at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations, which wrote: "We hope that peace rose will affect men's thoughts for world peace."

 History of National Peace Rose Day:

Francis Meiland, a French horticulturist, developed the Peace Rose by crossing the hybrid tea rose, known as Margaret McGrady, which grows with another sprout. He rose in the name of his late mother, Madame A. Named after Miland.

However, before the German invasion of France, Mieland sent rose cuttings to his friends in Italy, Turkey, Germany and the United States to protect the new flower. It is in these various countries that the roses were given other names. The official name of Rose in France is still "Madame A. Meiland" in honor of the breeder's mother. In Italy, it was given the meaning of 'Gioia,' 'happiness'. In Germany, it was called 'Gloria Dei', which means 'Glory to God'. In the United States, it was named the Peace Rose.

In the United States, it was given its American name in 1945 by Robert Pyle of the Conard Pyle Company, based in Pennsylvania. During the war in Europe, Pyle cultivated roses and sent samples to the American Rose Society for review.
