 Despite Singapore being one of the smallest countries worldwide, it is one of the largest per capita carbon dioxide emitters in the world.  Thus, to address the issue of climate change and cut greenhouse gas emissions, this floating solar farm is being built.  The project is being built by Sembcorp Industries.

 Renewable energy is a challenge for Singapore as the country has no rivers for hydropower.  Wind is also not strong enough to allow turbines to rotate.  Thus, Singapore is attempting to promote renewable energy with the establishment of floating solar farms.  Since Singapore has very little land, it has decided to set up power plants on its shores and reservoirs.
